19 opportunities to grow your career. Product roles in impact. Become the CEO of a woodland. And the best job boards...
Roles, courses + learning opportunities just for you
Opportunity Seeker highlights ways you can grow your career and personal impact. We’re here to open up opportunity so more of us can belong in spaces that need us.
And we are back to normal broadcast. For the last few months I have been moving countries which means a big lack of email send outs. But this week we are back with a bumper issue of opportunities to grow your career impact.
Today we’re going to cover…
How to get certified in climate investing
The best job boards 💼
3 ways to network + build community
Internships that actually pay 💰
4 Product roles with impact in ocean plastic, therapy, human rights, AI safety
And become the CEO of a woodland (yes, it’s a thing)
There have been a few hundred of you sign up since I last sent an email… so welcome. If you’re wondering who is writing this, I’m Hannah 👋. I advise startups and non profits, and work as a career coach.
Before we dive in, here’s some fighting words from the psychologist (and namesake) of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs…
In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety.
Ready to jumpstart into impact?
I often get emails or LinkedIn messages from people who want to have more impact in their work. This is a broad remit, and it’s good to figure out what issue or area you want to see positive change in. That way you’re focused before starting the job hunt. But here are four opportunities to put your specialist skills straight to use…
USA / Remote: Schmidt Futures was started by Eric and Wendy Schmidt (i.e. Google). It’s a philanthropic org that works to fund solutions at the intersection of non profit and tech. They’re hiring for a Lead Frontend Engineer who will be embedded within a climate tech non profit for one year. The role is remote, impact focused, and generously compensated.
London / Hybrid: Skilled in data science? Comic Relief is one of the biggest fundraisers tackling poverty. They’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to support their work.
Remote Netherlands / UK: Got some serious operations skills? With 3 million members globally, the Environmental Defence Fund is strengthening their EU setup and hiring a Head of Operations, Europe. They’re looking for someone experienced in ops and are open to candidates with a startup background.
Stratford Upon Avon / Hybrid: And finally, I love a tree focused org, and the Heart of England Forest is on a mission to create one of the UK’s largest woodlands. They’re looking for a new CEO. You don’t need to be a ‘tree’ expert, but you do need to have had senior leadership experience, and ideally knowledge of the non profit sector.
💡 Want to find other roles with impact? Specialist job boards are a good place to start. Escape the City is great for UK based roles (and some international), Ethical Jobs covers jobs in Australia, and Green Jobs Board is a good source of North American climate jobs.
Don’t go it alone
Figuring out how to have more career impact when you’re worried about election results, planetary warming and global conflicts can honestly be a bit of a mind game (to put it mildly). The best thing is to not go it alone - here’s 3 events coming up this month to help you find connection.
Berlin’s Climate Meetup: Run by the excellent Andra Nuta, Berlin’s Climate Meetup is having a picnic - and it’s happening this evening! Over 80 people are heading down from 6.30pm onwards, but if you can’t make it register for the next meetup.
NYC’s Leaders in Impact: In NYC and wanting to meet leaders working across non profits, impact startups and sustainability? While I was visiting New York this was one of the most valuable meetups I joined. Expect a wild ride of conversations, connections and at least one happy hour drink…
People, Planet, Pint: This event now has 100s of chapters across UK towns and cities (there’s also a pastry focused daytime version if you’re not into 🍻 focused meetups). And People, Planet, Pint has now gone international with events in Melbourne, Berlin and Auckland coming up this month.
💡 Need more one-to-one support as you figure your career journey? I’m now doing career coaching for people navigating big career change or wanting to develop in their current roles. You can book a first free session here.
Calling all Product people…
There are a lot of product managers and designers who read this send out. And as people get more senior they’re often looking to pivot into roles with purpose. So here (by popular request) are a few fresh opportunities to get you started…
London: Interested in saving us all from future disaster? Blue Dot Impact is a non profit that works like a startup. They are looking for a Product Manager to develop their core education products around AI safety and biosecurity. They are offering visa sponsorship for those outside of the UK and a generous 5k wellbeing budget.
Berlin: This one is for the German speakers, Amnesty International Germany is looking for a Product Manager who has experience in Salesforce. It won’t be all glamour, but helping organise the CRM of one of the world’s most impactful human rights orgs brings its own kind of glory.
Remote USA: This Group Product Manager role is with Grow Therapy, which creates tools and a platform for people to connect with therapists whose costs are covered by medical insurance. Sequoia just chipped in on their Series C, so they’re well funded and offering generous pay compensation.
Berlin/Remote: Got UX and product design skills and fancy applying them to the challenge of ocean plastic? Cleanhub is looking for a Product Designer with +3 years experience. While their HQ is Berlin based, they are remote friendly and the role reports directly into their VP of Product in the UK, Tom Cornfield.
4 Internships that actually pay
If you’re a student the best way to get a head start on your future career is by work placements, but often they’re unpaid and hard to juggle financially. Here’s four that actually will compensate you (though still not in a big way)…
Los Angeles: My career really began with a radio production internship, and now you can do the same. SiriusXM, based in LA, is looking for a Fall Intern Podcast Producer. And the best bit is you get to work alongside one of my old colleagues who reads this newsletter (hi Amelia 👋). Heads up, you will need the legal right to work in the US.
London: Chatham House is the UK’s royal institute for foreign affairs. It’s not a government body, but more of a policy think tank. They have a number of six month placements focused on environment and international affairs.
Berlin: Want to work in communications but not sure where to start? It’s not an internship, but COSMYC Partners are on the hunt for a PR Working Student, you’ll need to be actively studying and have an interest in startups and VC.
Amsterdam: Passionate about the arts, but want to work on climate? There’s a internship opportunity open in the green team of ELIA, the network for European art schools.
Learning opportunities
Summer holiday season is upon us ☀️, and while your finger is probably hovering over your ooo, here are four opportunities to network and grow that you can line up for September.
Get financially certified: Want to move into the climate investment space? It’s common for people to have a certification from the Chartered Financial Institute before they start work as a financial advisor or move into VC. The UK’s CFA have a Certificate in Climate and Investing. There will be lots of self-study needed to pass, but it’s a good option if you’re looking at a career pivot.
AI Governance: They might currently be hiring a Product Manager to lead their course development, but this hasn’t stopped Blue Dot Impact from rolling out their flagship courses. Applications have opened for a 12-week course on AI Safety Fundamentals kicking off this September.
B Corp Festival: Want to jump start your networking after the summer? The B Corp Festival is happening in Oxford this September, and it’s going to be the world’s biggest gathering of B-Corps to date. Themes cover regenerative futures and collective action, but if you can’t get there in person, you can also join virtually.
How to tackle greenwashing: Climate and impact communications can be a confusing place, and if you want to figure out how to do it right Creatives for Climate are running a live course this September. Registration spots have just opened (plus there are scholarships). Full disclosure, I recently joined the advisory board of Creatives for Climate 💚.

Got a position, learning opportunity or impact event you’d like to see in the next newsletter? Send it my way so I can include it in the next send out.
I have some spots left for career coaching taster calls this July. So if you’re feeling stuck in your career development, want to do a big job change, or need support as a founder, schedule a call. You can find out more about how I work here.
Signing off from sunny (but still not warm) Scotland! And if you’re also in the UK, don’t forget to vote today.
P.S. Got a spare second and feeling generous of heart?
As the UK goes to the polls, the results from the first round of the French national election are already in. And things are definitely taking a step to the right.
It’s easy to get disheartened. But one of Opportunity Seeker’s readers sent me a suggestion for an org you can support.
La Cimade works directly with migrants and refugees across France. With local chapters operating in most regions they annually help more than +100,000 people navigate the legal and migration system. They have also have a presence in 8 of France’s detention centres.
As the sector faces more pressure and growing political hostility they are looking to grow membership. You can also donate directly to their work here.
Want to do a bit more? They have a job board of volunteer roles and some are remote friendly, but you will need to be a French speaker. They are also looking for a paid IT specialist right now.
And mark your calendar, because every year in November, La Cimade put on a festival called Migrant Scene - follow their instagram for updates.
